Facade
by Nathaniel Vasquez

Run and hide, it’s the boogeyman!
Dad could always keep my imagination alive
Mom told me to not be afraid of the weird noises
Your mind plays tricks
                                  when it’s always running

It was Jerry, I swear! Don’t you see
                                                   him making
                                                                      faces at you? :P

Roses and daisies growing from the concrete
Oh look, now it’s a concrete jungle!
No son, it’s just a park, no lions or tigers for miles

It’s a time machine Dad, don’t you hear the dials and noises?
Let’s go back in time like that kid with the Delorean
No son, it’s just a freeway tunnel, no whacky scientist here

It’s always been a dream of mine to make a fort of pillows and blankets
Jumping across the lava on the floor
Making each jump like it’s my last
But now I have to be careful or
                                                else
                                                       I’ll
                                                           ...
                                                              fall.
                                                                     Carpet, damn.----

Young ones running around, little sisters and brothers
Living in the world that left me so long ago.
I wish I could go back, but that door
                                                       is
                                                          Closed
                                                                     ...shut. .
PLOP.

“Take this sir, and be the knight” says the prince.
“Save our kingdom” says the two princesses.
Yes, I can, and will be your knight.
The door still closed, but a window left ajar.
“Let the quest begin” ----[  ]

Bio

My name is  Nathaniel Vasquez  and I'm a current third-year student at PCC aspiring to become a high school English teacher.  My AP Literature teacher during my senior year of high school left such an impression on me that it helped support my dreams of becoming a teacher in the subject even more.  I come from a family where I'm the oldest of five and the first to attend college.  I hope to make my parents proud by eventually attaining my Master's in English Literature.  I'm a compassionate and understanding individual who makes it a mission to learn what I can from whoever to be well versed in an academic and personal state of mind.
