I believe in my own Self
by Sandip Saha

It is after me all the while,
a monster that loves to see
me suffering, crying; asks
me to surrender to Its infinite
power making me Its slave.

I do not bow my head, I
cannot obey a tormentor.
It wants unconditional love
from all. Others worship It
in fear of harm and pain It
inflicts to everyone who rebels.

I believe in only my own Self
who is nearest to me; without
it I cannot see, hear, feel, taste
or smell nor I can understand
anything of this creation.
I love that Self as it is only my
strength to overcome all enemies.

I need no institution, religion
or person to show me path
since I have not found anybody
so far who can help me selflessly.
They give lip service, take advantage
of my precarious situation and jump
on me to take my flesh out in the
name of ‘service to a good cause’ while
inherently it serves their interest only.
