GREAT

by Jacquelyn Shah
First one-hundred days: GREAT! Just GREAT!
Let’s make Trump great again. Again and again.
By saying he’s great, never been greater!
So . . . TRUMP IS GREAT! There’s no debate.
Trump is great, first-rate. GREAT!
Head of GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT state.
Of all the many many jaw-dropping traits,
the most impressive one he has is greatness.
Just ask him. And ask him how he thinks
it’s going in the oval place. GREAT! he’ll state
unequivocally (though that’s a word his High-Ass,
excuse me, Highness, wouldn’t know). Our fate:
a GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT Trumpian state.

Jacquelyn “Jacsun” Shah is drawn to the offbeat, the zany, the quirky, and loves absurdist and surrealist poetry. Founding member of Voices Breaking Boundaries (VBB), a literary arts organization, she has taught creative writing through Writers In The Schools and at the University of Houston, where she completed both M.F.A. and Ph.D. in creative writing and English literature. Her work has appeared in various journals and anthologies, such as Cranky,Margie, Tar River Poetry, The Texas Review, and Rhino. She has several poems forthcoming in other publications, as well as a chapbook and a full-length book.
