When God Created Sunflowers

Chanteria Milner

"Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.”
Psalms 126:5

Have you ever seen the sun
     sprouting from the ground?
     Made in the form,
     His likeness borne,
     amazement brought, unbound.
     They permeate
     the iron gate
     behind, most hearts are found.

Have you ever stood inside
     their patches tow’ring high?
     They suffocate,
     leave no escape
and seem to mock your cries.
     But they know fear,
     they’ll wipe your tears,
and point you towards the sky.

Have you ever kissed their petals,
     the incandescent flames?
     The multitude
     counts to include
     what generations contain.
     They know challenge,
     that growth demands
you learn to take the pain.

Have you ever seen their faces
     viewing the unknown?
     They stand in awe
     ‘til darkness falls,
His love, He made their own.
     And still they wait
     until the day
     when they are welcomed home.
