The Seasons of Life

By Raymond A. Boone
Growing up in New York City
Watching ABC News as the people complained about the dangers of Central Park
Without the Park Rangers there was no hope it would ever get safer
Hoping one day I'd be old enough to feel the excitement of the danger
By stepping through the largest park in America
Years later walking across the Central Park Bridge without a hassle
Only to end up checking out the spooky old castle
Appreciating the running stream below
Realizing the importance of natural preservation
As fall arrived blowing around red and brown leaves
Years later admiring the families walking about
Watching the people walking dogs at dawn across the great lawn
As I wandered around finding the pond from the Jefferson's ending theme song
I imagined moving on up to the duplex in the great blue sky
So I could look out on the reservoir one hundred times the size of the pond
Until the winter time hit,  freezing it over
Once spring time arrived the ducks returned to the lake at the Boathouse Restaurant
Not realizing their cousins made the menu at over a hundred dollars a plate
As the fisherman strung on some bait trying to catch some big old carp
A horse and buggy carrying a bride and groom disappeared across the great lot
As I appreciated the Park Rangers for finally keeping everybody safe
I thank ABC News for the story about the dangers of good ol’ Central Park

The Appreciation for Culture and Creativity
As a Creative Writing major at Pasadena City College, Raymond Boone plans to use his knowledge of artistic and literary forms, to inspire his readers to learn from multiculturalism. He believes that if all human beings were created to be the same, it would make the world a boring place, so we should seek diversity to learn and broaden our horizons and to be the person in life we desire; not a label of society.
