My First Friend

I choose to write 
tongue tied with tears
A pen in my hand
my fears on my sleeve
     I breathe

I don't know how to express
pouring my heart out
Page after page
This doesn't feel like a test
     I’ve fallen in love

With words 
A place free of judgement
my deepest rage
my highest happiness
     Soaring from line to line

Sam Keirstead is a student at Pasadena City College and hopes to attain the associate's degree in Education. Sam likes to write poetry and loves writing about his day because that is the only way to remember awesome memories. Through the creative writing summer academy at PCC, Sam has been able to rediscover his voice and has been able to fluently express himself.
